The markets are slipping again this morning, but the list of option volume leaders is filled with most of the usual suspects, according to LiveAction's data system.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (NYSEArca:SPY) is down $0.32 on the day with 775,000 options traded. The S&P 500 Index (TSXV:SPX.V) options is fifth on the list with 127.000. The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX), which is derived from the SPX options, is just above that with 188,000 contracts as it breaks back above 20.
The iShares Russell 2000 Index Fund (NYSEArca:IWM) is second on the list with 253,000 options traded. The SPDR Energy Fund (NYSEArca:XLE) makes the list today with 119,000 contracts. And the PowerShares QQQ Trust (NasdaqGM:QQQ) is up fractionally with just under 100,000 options changing hands.
Apple (NasdaqGS:AAPL) is No. 3 on the list as the top individual name with 239,000 options as it hits another new high above $400. Netflix (NasdaqGS:NFLX) jumps into the top 10 with 106,000 options as it drops 10 percent. Baidu (NasdaqGS:BIDU) also makes the list today with 100,000 contracts.
The SPDR Gold Shares Fund (NYSEArca:GLD) comes in tenth with 68,000 options traded as it slips slightly off the highs.
