AUBURN HILLS, MI--(MARKET WIRE)--Jan 6, 2009 -- Plexus Systems, Inc. today announced the company has changed its name to Plex Systems, Inc., and its flagship product, Plexus Online, is now Plex Online. Additionally, the company announced record growth and revenue for 2008, and detailed expansion plans for 2009.

Mark Symonds, president and CEO of Plex Systems, said, "As we enter new industries and expand internationally, it's vital that the company establish a unique identity as the premier provider of software as a service solutions for manufacturers. Plex Systems and Plex Online are simple, universal and unique and align with the domain name we've been using all along." Symonds explained that "plex" is a suffix used in mathematics to denote 'ten to the power of X,' such as googolplex, and it suggests the level of power that Plex Online puts in the hands of its users. The Plex Systems website is www.plex.com.

The name change is effective immediately.

Plex Systems Announces Record Growth in 2008

The company announced that a record number of new customers chose Plex Online, the leading software as a service ERP package for manufacturers, during 2008.

"Fifty-two new customers joined the Plex Online family in 2008," said Symonds. "Those new customers, along with expanded business from our existing customers, led to a 33% increase in revenue in 2008, while maintaining operating profitability." Note that as a privately held company, Plex Systems does not publish detailed financial information.

"The software as a service (SaaS) technology and business model that Plex Systems has pioneered is exceptionally well suited for the economic challenges that many manufacturers are facing," said Symonds. "Plex Online is the right solution for these times -- times when other software providers are suffering from rapidly dropping sales and plummeting budgets for new research and development."

With SaaS solutions like Plex Online, companies enjoy exceptional flexibility in how the software is configured and deployed, rapid implementations that provide an accelerated time to value, and low monthly subscription pricing, without the large expenses associated with older software systems, which require the purchase of servers, storage systems, and other hardware. Plex Online enterprise resource planning (ERP) software is an important driver enabling manufacturers to function at maximum efficiency from the shop floor to the top floor. Plex Online is currently deployed by companies in automotive, aerospace and defense, life sciences and the food & beverage industries.

Plex Systems Announces Expansion Plans for 2009

Plex Systems has grown from 98 employees at the end of 2006 to 128 employees as of December 31, 2008, and plans to hire 20-40 people in 2009. To accommodate this growth, the company will be expanding into a 20,000 square foot space in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Software developers and other technical staff will move into the new facility during the first half of 2009; sales, marketing, finance and administration staff will remain in the company headquarters at 1731 Harmon Road in Auburn Hills. "As a world-class technology provider, we need to offer our staff world-class facilities," said Symonds. "We are dedicated to our Michigan presence, as this is the world's leading region for manufacturing expertise." Plex worked with the Michigan Economic Development Corp. to earn tax credits from the State of Michigan and the City of Auburn Hills to facilitate this expansion.

Additionally, the company expects to hire sales staff in several new regions in the United States, and in Europe and Asia during 2009, according to Symonds. "Our customer base is pulling us into regional manufacturing hubs in Eastern Europe, in Japan, China, and other areas," he said. "During 2009 we expect to reach a tipping point in several regions where it makes sense for us to have direct representation for new sales and for customer service."

Further details on new hires and the new space will be announced in the coming months.
