Powerwave Expands Operations with Opening of New Manufacturing Facility in Thailand

SANTA ANA, Calif. & LAEM CHABANG, Thailand--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Powerwave Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:PWAV - News), a global leader in end-to-end wireless coverage and capacity solutions, today announced the expansion of its worldwide operations with the grand opening of its newest manufacturing facility located in Laem Chabang in Chonburi Province, Thailand.

Powerwave is the first full wireless manufacturing company of this type to be located in Thailand. Expected to be operational by the end of the year, the 135,000-square-foot facility will initially employ 300 employees, with plans to employ approximately 500 employees by the end of 2010. The factory will manufacture various products including Remote Radio Heads, Multi Carrier Power Amplifiers, Power Distribution Units and Repeaters, and will support Powerwave’s repair activities in Asia.

The new facility, which is a Thailand Board of Investment sponsored development, supports the company’s overall goal of reducing costs to maximize profitability, enabling Powerwave to further consolidate operations and reduce dependencies on multiple contract manufacturers – all while establishing a world-class, efficient and effective low-cost manufacturing site. The new center also promotes the strategic use of Powerwave’s global resources and assets. The Thai facility will implement Powerwave’s newest and latest shop floor control and inventory management systems.
