PriceSmart August sales rise 3.5 percent to $102.5 million

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Warehouse club operator PriceSmart Inc. said Tuesday that its August sales climbed 3.5 percent to $102.5 million.

Sales at warehouse clubs open at least a year edged up 0.6 percent.

For the year ended Aug. 31, total sales rose 11.6 percent to $1.22 billion.

PriceSmart had 26 warehouse clubs in July compared with 25 in the prior-year period.

The company also said it is delaying the opening of a store in Trinidad to spring 2010 from fall 2009 because of slower-than-expected building construction.
