RIDGELAND, MS--(MARKET WIRE)--Jan 13, 2009 -- Despite current economic conditions, the vast majority of CIOs are not planning IT staff cutbacks in 2009, according to recent research. In fact, the need for technical staff is still strong. One of the primary technical skills most in demand is desktop support, which generally entails on-site visits. However, with Bomgar's remote desktop control software thousands of companies are enabling support technicians to resolve problems and update and maintain remote computers without leaving their desks.
The research, developed by Robert Half Technology and published as the IT Hiring Index and Skills Report, interviewed 1,400 CIOs across a variety of industries. The Report offers regional hiring data, information about specific industries, which technology issues are driving IT hiring and which skill sets are most in demand.
Those enterprises with more than 1,000 employees are expecting to see the greatest hiring increase in the first quarter of 2009 and, although network administration is the primary skill set needed, required by 70% of those interviewed, the need for desktop support is also very strong at 69%.
Desktop support takes significant manpower as support technicians are required to visit the location of the remote computer. Helpdesk support, on the other hand, is usually done over the phone, via email or chat, or through remote desktop control, and is more efficient.
However, with Bomgar's remote desktop control solutions, situations that would normally require on-site visits can usually be resolved remotely. Enterprises using Bomgar's solutions routinely reduce their on-site visits by 25 to 98%. This also reduces travel time significantly and support technicians who would often be out of the office and unavailable have more time to attend to other duties.
Desktop support is also frequently used to support unattended PCs. With Bomgar's remote access software, support technicians can gain control of as many unattended remote servers, desktops, terminals and Point of Sale systems as necessary with Bomgar's exclusive patent-pending Jump Technology. Jump is built into Bomgar, so there is no need to purchase additional solutions.
