Chicago Sun-Times, SouthtownStar, Beacon News, Courier-News, Lake County News Sun and Naperville Sun To Receive Combined 48 Awards
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Sun-Times News Group, including the Chicago Sun-Times, the city’s most-read newspaper, earned a combined 48 awards, including 14 first-place honors, in the 2009 Illinois Associated Press Editors Association Editorial Excellence and the 2009 Illinois Associated Press Editors Association Photo Excellence contests.
The Chicago Sun-Times took four first-place awards, including first place in the Deadline News category for its coverage of the arrest of Gov. Rod Blagojevich. The Beacon News earned eight first-place awards; the Courier-News, Elgin, received three first-place honors; the Naperville Sun two first-place awards and the Lake County News-Sun received the distinctive honor of first place in the General Excellence category. Also being honored with multiple awards is the SouthtownStar, the Southland’s best newspaper, for photography, features and general excellence.
The Illinois AP honors follow the recent notification to the Sun-Times News Group that its newspapers will receive more than 100 journalism awards from the Illinois Press Association in a separate contest. Awards for both contests will be presented at the Illinois Press Association/Illinois Associated Press Editors Association annual meeting Oct. 8, 2009 in Peoria, Illinois.
