WASHINGTON, DC--(MARKET WIRE)--Jan 13, 2009 -- While would-be celebrants eye designer duds for President-elect Barack Obama inauguration parties, one inaugural ball is offering an alternative approach to the merriment. The "T-Shirt and Tails" Ball urges party-goers to sport their finest Obama-chic glad rags, dressing up their gowns and tuxedos with Obama t-shirts and paraphernalia. All in support of the Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys in southeast Washington.
The "T-Shirt and Tails Ball," hosted by the Friends of the Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys, will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2009 from 9:00 PM to 2:00 AM at the historic Darlington House on Dupont Circle. Entertainment will be provided by the NDoye Trio and FatBackDC. Ticket prices are $150.00 with proceeds going to support the BWS, an Episcopal school that provides an academically rigorous, tuition-free education to boys in Anacostia.
"Both President-elect Obama and the late Bishop Walker identified a quality education as the key to personal success and social progress," said James Woody, Director of External Operations, of the BWS. "The 'T-Shirt and Tails' Ball will be a tremendous benefit in support of our mission to help grow the next generation of leaders."
Timothy Stephens of the Friends of the BWS remarks: "President-elect Obama's message of hope not only inspired millions to act in the last election, it was for friends to come together and design our own celebrations. We are looking forward to seeing the attendees strut their Obama stuff, while supporting a great cause in DC."
About the Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys
Named in honor of the Rt. Reverend John Thomas Walker, the first African-American Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, and launched in the fall of 2008, the Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys provides a faith-based, academically rigorous, family-oriented, and tuition free education to boys in chronically underserved areas east of the Anacostia River. BWS is a fitting continuation of Bishop Walker's commitment to youth and to our Nation's Capital.
