AUSTIN, TX--(MARKET WIRE)--Dec 3, 2008 -- The impact of the current economic downturn has been felt at every turn, yet college football fans hardly seem fazed. High demand for bowl tickets is keeping the average price consistent with 2007. This year, bowl tickets differ by only a few dollars compared to last year's average ticket prices the week before official bowl announcements.
The BCS Championship game continues to dominate the list as the hottest ticket of the postseason, but the tickets also experienced the largest decrease in price, dropping by $153. Ticket prices for the title game will fluctuate over the weekend depending on how the conference championships and highly debated BCS rankings shake out. "If Alabama or Texas makes it to the BCS Championship, demand will skyrocket and prices will stay high, if not climb," commented Rafael Rivas, VP of Sales for TicketCity. "If the matchup is between Oklahoma and Florida, we'll see an overall decrease in BCS ticket prices across the market."
It is no surprise the BCS matchups including the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl and Fiesta Bowl continue to dominate this year's list. The prices for all BCS matchups have decreased, except for the Sugar Bowl which increased by $1 and the Texas Bowl is up $6 above the 2007 going rate. "BCS bowls are always a hot ticket and this year we're looking at USC vs Penn State for the Rose Bowl," stated Rivas. "Penn State fans always travel well and we'll see those fans drive the demand for Rose Bowl tickets." The Orange Bowl, where some predictions have pending ACC Champion Boston College or Virginia Tech matched against Cincinnati, currently ranks lower on the list yet ticket prices are almost $20 more than in 2007.
Come Sunday evening, every college football fan will know where their team is headed and will rush to get tickets to their team's last game of the season. Randy Cohen, CEO of TicketCity, gives some insight as to the fast pace expected Sunday evening, "People are online and calling the phones as the announcements are made, so fans need to act fast to secure tickets, as the best seats will go quickly." TicketCity will release an updated version of the Top 25 Hottest Bowl Game Tickets on December 8th.
Prices are based on average market value ticket prices in the secondary market. The secondary market is comprised of over 800 ticket brokers, and all of the fans who are selling tickets throughout the country.
