LAS VEGAS, NV--(MARKET WIRE)--Jan 7, 2009 -- Troy Stremming has been promoted to the position of Senior Vice President of Governmental Affairs for Ameristar Casinos, Inc. (NasdaqGS:ASCA - News).
Stremming represents the Company among governmental, regulatory and community affairs constituencies in the seven markets across six states in which it operates. In addition, Stremming played a pivotal role in campaigns that led to the November 2008 passage of two gaming-related ballot inititiaves, Proposition A in Missouri and Amendment 50 in Colorado. These measures provide significant growth opportunities to Ameristar's properties in St. Charles, Mo., Kansas City, Mo., and Black Hawk, Colo.
"Troy has worked zealously to represent Ameristar among a variety of influential stakeholders, including gaming regulators, governmental officials and community organizations," said Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman Gordon Kanofsky. "We're very fortunate to have Troy directing this critically important area of responsibility for our Company, and with this well-deserved promotion he will become an even more important contributor to Ameristar's success as a member of our senior leadership team."
Stremming also has played a leadership role in several organizations that have worked to expand opportunities within the gaming industry for minorities and women, both as employees and as suppliers and vendors.
Stremming, 41, joined Ameristar in December 2000 as Vice President of Governmental Affairs from his previous position as General Counsel for Station Casinos' Midwest Operations, a move that corresponded with Ameristar's acquisition of Station's two properties in Missouri.
Since that time, Ameristar has expanded its operations to include the additional jurisdictions of Colorado and Indiana, through acquisitions of properties in Black Hawk, Colo. and East Chicago, Ind., which have since been upgraded and rebranded under the Ameristar name. Stremming developed effective governmental affairs programs in those states and expanded upon Ameristar's programs in Missouri, Mississippi, Iowa and Nevada. He and his team also monitor and represent the Company's interests with governmental, regulatory and community affairs constituencies in neighboring states, notably Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska and Idaho. He was promoted to Chief Governmental Affairs Officer in January 2007.
"I'm very privileged to work with such committed and talented colleagues at Ameristar," Stremming said. "Together, we've accomplished a great deal to help ensure the success of the Company, and I look forward to the challenges and opportunities to come."
In addition to his Ameristar responsibilities, Stremming currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City; on the American Gaming Association's Task Forces on Internet Gaming, and Diversity; and on the Boards of the MidAmerica Minority Business Development Council, and the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Greater Kansas City. He is past President of the Missouri Gaming Association and previously was named to Kansas City business periodical Ingram Magazine's "40 Under Forty."
A lawyer by profession, Stremming began his legal career with Rose, Boulette & Shapiro in Kansas City. He is a graduate of Washburn University School of Business and School of Law, in Topeka, Kan.
Stremming will continue to report to Kanofsky and remain based out of Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City.
