LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Tutor Perini Corp. said Tuesday a joint venture that includes its Black Construction subsidiary received a $19.2 million contract from the Navy for a construction project on the Indian Ocean island of Diego Garcia.

The construction company said the contract will support the relocation of a Land class vessel due to the closure of the current ship homeport in the British territory. It will include water and wastewater system upgrades and storage facility construction.

The contract is the second phase of a planned three-phase construction program to provide facilities to support the ship and ships it will service at the U.S. Navy Support Facility Diego Garcia.

Shares of Tutor Perini rose 47 cents, or 2.9 percent, to $19.21 in midday trading.
