Unum Named Corporate Citizen of the Year by Worcester Business Journal

WORCESTER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Worcester Business Journal today recognized Unum (NYSE:UNM - News) as the 2009 Corporate Citizen of the Year. The award is part of the publication’s Business Leaders of the Year awards program, which highlights admirable businesses and business leaders in Central Massachusetts.

“We give out the Corporate Citizen of the Year award to celebrate the businesses that demonstrate that ethics and profitability can go hand in hand,” said Christina H. Davis, editor of the Worcester Business Journal. “We also give this honor out each year to reinforce the good that so many businesses are doing in our communities.”

“This is an award that honors all those employees here in Worcester and at our other sites who have helped to earn the respect and appreciation of our community,” said Chris Collins, Unum US senior vice president and general counsel.

The Worcester Business journal judges the award internally, seeking input from Clark University and members of the local business community. The award is given in conjunction with Clark’s Graduate School of Management.

Past winners of the Corporate Citizen of the Year award include Coghlin Cos., Woodmeister Master Builders, Rotmans Furniture and Wellness Corp.

Each award winner will be formally recognized at an event scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the Beechwood Hotel in Worcester.
