Van Drivers Lose Valuable Working Hours Stuck in Traffic, Says Swinton Commercial

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire -12/12/11)- A survey by Swinton Commercial, the UK's leading high street retailer of cheap van insurance, has found that van drivers lose around six working hours a month sat in traffic jams.

The poll, based on responses from 1000 van drivers who use their vehicle for work, demonstrated the severity of traffic congestion to and from the workplace, and the way in which it impacts on the average working day.

The results showed that 45% of van drivers lose roughly an hour and ten minutes a week sitting in work traffic, resulting in delays to their work schedule.

Of those surveyed, around 23% admitted to leaving for work at around 7am or earlier, in order to get there on time and avoid the traffic.

A further 17% said they would rather work late in order to dodge the congestion, while 15% of van drivers confessed that they had considered taking public transport rather than braving the bumper to bumper queues.

The survey questioned drivers about their working hours, industry, driving habits, and how often they found themselves stuck in a jam during the working week.

The fact that van drivers lose so many working hours during such a crucial time is really quite surprising. More traffic on the roads can also increase the risk of collisions, so the correct van insurance is vital whatever the season."
