LOS ANGELES, CA--(MARKET WIRE)--Apr 3, 2009 -- Landing a new job is hard work. Just getting through the first interview is a challenge especially for a professional who's been laid off from a position he has held for years. Media consultant Suzanne Spurgeon says, "Interview skills get rusty if you don't use them. If you've been at the same firm for years, chances are you are very good at what you do, but you may need some help prepping for your next job. At Women Media Pros, we started getting a lot of calls from professionals who lack interview skills and the confidence to wow potential employers. Using the same techniques we use to prep executives for media interviews, we are now coaching job seekers in the art of the interview."

During her days as Vice President at CNN, Spurgeon conducted many job interviews and knows how easily a candidate can blow it in the initial interview. Spurgeon teams with Women Media Pros consultant Claudia McMahon in the private job training sessions. They begin by critiquing the client's resume and cover letter and then bring out the video camera. McMahon says, "On-camera training is a fantastic way to show a client exactly how she appears to potential employers. We help our clients craft their message and become more dynamic through a series of mock job interviews."

The service isn't limited to executives. It's also available to graduates who don't have a lot of experience with job interviews and for work-at-home mothers who are entering or returning to the job market outside the home. Details are available at www.womenmediapros.com.

"We have found that many human relations departments are doing everything they can to help those being laid off, including paying for the training we offer," Spurgeon says. Her advice, "Ask your HR representative for help." McMahon adds, "Parents should consider giving the training as a graduation gift."

"Even in the age of 'Twitter,' strong, verbal communication skills are still very important to getting and keeping a job," Spurgeon says.
