SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Biotechnology company Vical Inc., which has already signed a pact with the U.S. Navy to develop a swine flu vaccine, said Thursday it received a $1.25 million contract to support vaccine production.
The funding from the Navy will go to a Phase 1 clinical trial for a potential vaccine.
In September, the company said its developing swine flu vaccine prompted "robust" immune responses in 100 percent of animals infected with distinct strains of the virus.
The Phase I clinical trial will involve human subjects.
Shares of Vical rose 22 cents, or 5.1 percent, to $4.48 in premarket activity.
