FOLSOM, Calif. (AP) -- Waste disposal company Waste Connections Inc. said Monday it has agreed to expand its landfill gas-to-energy operations at the Potrero Hills Landfill in northern California.

The company said landfill gas will be recovered and converted into renewable electric power under the 25-year agreement with DTE Biomass Energy.

The project is expected to produce enough electricity to power about 7,000 homes per year, the company said.

Shares of Waste Connections slid 3 cents to close earlier at $29.38.
