Israel seizes weapons-filled ship
Commandos seized a ship that defense officials said was carrying hundreds of tons of weapons from Iran bound for Lebanon's Hezbollah guerrillas -- the largest arms shipment Israel has ever commandeered. The military said an Iranian document was on board, showing the arms shipment originated from Iran. The Israelis boarded the ship before dawn in the waters near Cyprus.
ITALY: An Italian judge convicted 23 Americans in absentia of the '03 kidnapping of an Egyptian cleric from a Milan street, in a landmark case involving the CIA's extraordinary rendition program in the war on terror.
BURMA: After the highest-level talks in 14 years with the ruling military junta and opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, a senior U.S. diplomat said America wants better ties with the military-ruled country if it makes steps toward democracy.
AFGHANISTAN: An Afghan police- man killed 5 British soldiers at a checkpoint, and the Taliban said he was one of their fighters who had infiltrated the force.
