NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - September 03, 2015) - Advantech (2395.TW) today announced it will be showcasing the latest advances in its product portfolio for the broadcast video industry at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) September 11-15, 2015 in Amsterdam. Advantech provides access to the latest video processing technology in powerful and efficient solutions that help OEMs build next-generation broadcast video infrastructure. The product demonstrations address three major challenges.

4K / Ultra High Definition (UHD) Video Support
With an increasing consumer focus on 4K TVs and broadcasters seeing ways to differentiate using 4K, the race is on to upgrade workflows to handle it. This has impacts across the entire "glass to glass" structure. On the contribution side, Advantech has been collaborating with Sony on products for the Sony IP Live Production System to solve the UHD live video transport challenge, and will unveil their first 4K transport product during the show. On the distribution side, Advantech UHD HEVC Encoder Accelerators streamline the integration of HEVC functionality into server-based encoder implementations to get the balance of bandwidth efficiency and video quality required by UHD services at a lower power budget and with less development effort.

Upgrading to the High Efficiency Video Codec (HEVC)
HEVC offers up to 50% bandwidth reduction for the same video quality compared to AVC / H.264 but at the expense of up to 10x processing complexity. Factor in the 4x pixel count of 4K and the resulting processing demand overwhelms the majority of existing encoder solutions. Advantech will demonstrate the advantages of its HVC-8700 which performs real-time 4Kp60 4:2:2 10 bit HEVC encoding at less than 15W power consumption in a simple-to-integrate accelerator board; and show how the same technology combined with 4K-capable SDI, HDMI 2.0 and Display Port 1.2 inputs in the HVC-8701 can also be configured to capture and encode 4 independent Full HD channels. New at IBC 2015 will be a new small form factor HEVC encoding and streaming module that extends HEVC bandwidth reduction benefits to the mobile contribution part of the workflow.

Moving to an IP Video Infrastructure
A key part of this transition involves the replacement of SDI cables and switches with "virtual SDI" or reliable streamed video connections across standard IP networks. In addition to the new Sony IP Live product supporting 4K live streaming, Advantech's product portfolio on show for IP Video Transport includes the HVC-8800 PCI Express adapter based on SMPTE 2022-6, standalone SDI to IP bridges, and the High Density ESP-9212 SDN-ready Ethernet Switch supporting up to 132 HD video channels that is ready to be integrated in a software-defined video network.

"Advantech has been focusing on building a product portfolio that helps OEMs overcome the challenges of transitioning to a 4K workflow and to an IP based infrastructure," said Brian Carr, Strategic Marketing and Product Development Director, Advantech. "If supporting 4K UHD wasn't enough of an upheaval, the move to IP encourages the integration of cost-effective IT/Datacenter components and techniques into product lineups. Our goal is to provide access to the next generation of relevant technology that solves real problems. Video equipment manufacturers can leverage Advantech IP Video Transport products and Advantech HEVC Encoder Accelerators to build powerful, flexible and efficient UHD broadcast infrastructure elements that streamline next-generation TV services deployment."

Advantech will be exhibiting in IBC booth # 9.C22, September 11-15, 2015 in Amsterdam. For more information and to book an appointment, please contact video.solutions@advantech.com or visit www.video-acceleration.com.
