Alcatel-Lucent Nuage Venture's SDN Solutions for Oracle Linux

Alcatel-Lucent(ALU) recently announced that Nuage Networks, its venture for software-defined networking (SDN.V) solutions, will be extending its offerings for Oracle OpenStack for Oracle Linux, Oracle Corporation’s (ORCL) operating system, via a plug-in. This news, on Sep 25, failed to provide impetus to the stock and the shares have declined about 0.9% so far.

The company believes that this development will significantly benefit the enterprises and cloud providers by allowing them more options as well as boosting their interoperability. This program will enable them to gain from the efficient SDN solutions, especially in the cloud environments which are high on performance, scalability and policy-based automation.

Nuage Networks has been focused on driving the development of cloud architectures that incorporate application-driven virtualization and SDN with open-platforms. This development will ease customer’s experience of using both virtualized and non-virtualized infrastructure.

The company’s Nuage Networks Virtualized Services Platform (:VSP) will benefit the customers through the advanced data center network by enhancing application programmability and facilitating mobility among diverse cloud service providers, operators and companies worldwide. Moreover, it will maximize the computing efficiency.

Alcatel-Lucent had launched the innovative SDN technology in Dec 2013 for its enterprise business, as part of ‘The Shift Plan’. The technology was designed for the company’s OmniSwitch Ethernet LAN portfolio, developed to address the increasing demands of employees and customers in an efficient manner. The program had additional features for automation and provisioning, which were crucial for solving real issues and enhancing overall user experience.

Alcatel-Lucent currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Better-ranked stocks in the industry include Aerohive Networks, Inc. (HIVE) and Spirent Communications Plc. (SPMYY), both carrying a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
