NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Mar 14, 2013) - A blast of Alpine air will rush through Denver, Washington DC, and New York City the week of April 22nd for the Alto Adige Wines annual grand tasting tour. One of Italy's smallest and most northern wine regions, Alto Adige [Ahl-toe AH-dee-jay] is perhaps best known for aromatic and mineral-driven white wines. However, the region is also home to elegant and charming reds.
Wine industry professionals and media are invited to attend a guided technical seminar led by internationally renowned wine expert, Tim Gaiser, MS, and focusing on the quality and diversity of the region's indigenous varieties. A walk-around tasting will follow, featuring more than 20 Alto Adige wine producers pouring over 200 wines from 20 different varieties. In New York City, the region will hold its first-ever consumer grand tasting at the Metropolitan Pavilion, in partnership with Snooth.com and Action Against Hunger, a global humanitarian organization committed to ending world hunger.
Nestled between Austria and Switzerland, Alto Adige's diverse climate and vineyard elevations create a variety of terroirs. Against the backdrop of the Dolomite Mountains, vineyards are located from steep hillsides to lower-altitude, Mediterranean-like areas. A combination of cool Alpine breezes, heat from over 300 days of sunshine per year, and wide temperature swings between day and night result in perfectly ripened grapes that produce elegant, aromatic wines expressing typical varietal character.

The Alto Adige Wine Board was formed in 1975 by a group of winemaking companies to promote and strengthen the image of the wines from Alto Adige. The promotional campaigns are implemented by the Export Organization South Tyrol (EOS) of the Chamber of Commerce Bolzano on behalf of the Consortium of Alto Adige Wines. The Alto Adige Wine Board is active in Italy, Germany, Austria, England, Benelux, Switzerland and in the United States.
