Amy Schumer Told Howard Stern the Met Gala Was the Worst

The annual Met Gala is one of the most talked-about events of the year, with famous faces like Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift all attending in lavish gowns and incredible makeup looks. Although some of us wish to one day be one of the elite invited to the event, one celebrity just claimed the whole thing is actually a total nightmare, even going as far as to say that it “felt like a punishment.”

Can’t imagine which celebrity would talk so poorly of such a highly publicized gathering? Of course it’s Amy Schumer, who’s notorious for speaking her mind — no matter who (or what!) her thoughts are about. In an interview with Howard Stern, Schumer blasted the Met Gala, saying it was like a “punishment” to attend and that networking with other celebrities made matters even worse. “It’s people doing an impression of having a conversation. I don’t like the farce. … We’re dressed up like a bunch of f***ing a**holes. I don’t like it. I have no interest in fashion. … I don’t care.”

Surprisingly, Schumer isn’t the only celebrity to say negative things about the event. Last year, Tina Fey told David Letterman to “drink contact-lens fluid” before the gala (in order to avoid having to attend at all). “If you had a million arms and all the people you would punch in the whole world, they’re all there,” she said.

Before that, Us Weekly reported that Gwyneth Paltrow told USA Today that the 2013 Met Gala would be her last (which it actually was), “I’m never going again. … It was so un-fun. It was boiling,” she complained.

Still need proof that celebrities are slowly falling off the Met Gala bandwagon? Demi Lovato posted an unflattering Instagram photo of this past Met Gala with the caption “This picture pretty much summed up my first and probably last met #cool #sof***ingawkward #notforme #sweatpants #forensicfiles #whatsgood.” Clearly Lovato won’t be attending any future events at the Met either.

So let the fact that so many A-listers didn’t enjoy the Met Gala be of comfort to any of us who wish to have been invited all these past years. Maybe the glittery façade isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
