Appeals court affirms ruling in Rembrandt case against Western Digital, Seagate

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit affirmed a lower court ruling in a patent infringement suit brought by Rembrandt Data Storage against Western Digital (WDC) and Seagate Technology (STX). In its 10-Q filed last month, Western Digital said, "After a favorable claim construction ruling by the court, Western Digital secured a stipulation from (Rembrandt) to dismiss the case. (Rembrandt) has appealed the Court’s claim construction ruling, and the parties await a hearing on the appeal." The asserted patents allegedly relate to specific thin film heads having solenoid coils, according to Western Digital's quarterly filing.
