Apple’s worst iPhone will be killed off next week, rumors suggest

The iPhone 7 will come with a familiar design, early reports said, and we immediately started wondering whether the 16GB storage tier will be kept in place for the cheapest new iPhone. As we moved closer to the iPhone 7’s actual launch, more and more reports started offering alleged evidence that the 16GB iPhone is going away.

Reports from multiple sources indicated that Apple would double memory across the board, replacing the 16GB/64GB/128GB storage setup it used for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s with a 32GB/128GB/256GB lineup. A new leak indicates that the 32GB iPhone 7 is indeed real, and that’s good news to any iPhone fan looking to buy the cheapest iPhone 7 Apple will sell starting next week.

DON’T MISS: The worst thing about yesterday’s big iPhone 7 specs leak

Mysterious Twitter user @the_malignant, who keeps leaking details about the iPhone and other mobile devices, posted an image that supposedly shows the packaging of a prototype iPhone 7.

The packaging has a bunch of markings that indicate this is an accurate iPhone 7 prototype. We have Foxconn branding and a number for the prototype – whoever used unit 1902 of 3000 will be in serious trouble. Furthermore, a “D10” codename can also be easily seen in the image, and is consistent with previous reports.

But we’re excited about that 32G on the label that indicates we’re looking at a unit with 32GB of storage. This can only be the entry-level iPhone 7 (or iPhone 7 Plus), which will have the minimum amount of storage.

The same Twitter user also leaked purported prices for the 32GB, 128GB and 256GB iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models, as seen below. With just over a week to go until Apple finally launches the most anticipated smartphone of the year, these leaks certainly seem to put our minds at ease when it comes to iPhone 7 storage.
