SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -- Semiconductor-equipment maker Applied Materials Inc. said Tuesday that Gary Dickerson has been named president of the company.
Dickerson, 30-year industry veteran, worked most recently as CEO of Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates Inc., which Applied Materials acquired last year. As president, he will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and performance of the company's four business units: the Silicon Systems Group, Energy and Environmental Solutions, Display and Applied Global Services.
Shares of the company, which is based in Santa Clara, Calif., rose 18 cents to close at $11.18.
