LITTLE ROCK, Ark.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Genealogists have a new tool. The Arkansas Department of Health released a new online service which allows users to search and order Arkansas death certificates.

“Searching for family history is more popular today than ever, and it’s easier, too, because computers can do jobs that used to take days in just fractions of a second,” said John Senner, PhD, director of the Center for Health Practice at ADH. “We get a lot of requests for this kind of service, and the new web tool will allow us to better serve the citizens of Arkansas.”

The new service provides a convenient method for searching through historical records to verify the identity of the deceased using the name, date of death, and mother’s name prior to purchasing the record. Previously, death certificates could only be obtained by requesting one in person at the Department of Health or by submitting a paper request form. Currently, death certificates from 1935 to 1961 are available, but the Arkansas Department of Health will be adding additional records in the coming months. Accepted payment methods are Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, and E-Check. Copies of Death Certificates are $10 for the first copy and $8 for each additional copy. Begin searching at https://ar.gov/deathcertificate.
