Chrysler's August US sales rise 12 percent, led by Ram pickup and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- Chrysler Group LLC said Wednesday that its August U.S. sales rose 12 percent, led by the Ram pickup and Jeep Grand Cherokee large SUV.

BY THE NUMBERS: The Auburn Hills, Mich.-based automaker said it sold 165,552 cars and trucks last month, up from 148,472 a year earlier.

TOP SELLERS: Ram pickup sales were up 31 percent to 33,009. Grand Cherokee sales increased 40 percent to 17,976.

HOT MODELS: Dodge Durango SUV sales more than doubled to 6,246. Jeep Patriot small SUV sales were up 42 percent to 7,170.
