Barclays Accelerator Powered By Techstars To Scout for Fintech Startups at The Benzinga Fintech Awards

DETROIT, MI / ACCESSWIRE / March 24, 2015 / Benzinga, a leading online financial media publication and host of the Benzinga Fintech Awards, an event dedicated to recognizing outstanding innovation in financial technology that is specific to the capital markets, announced today the participation of Barclays Accelerator powered by TechStars, who will be attending and recruiting at the event on April 8th, in New York City.

Both the Benzinga Fintech Awards and Barclays Accelerator program in New York City are in their inaugural year and share a common goal of shining a spotlight and propelling remarkable Fintech startup companies.

"At Barclays we recognize that innovation will not solely be driven from within our organization so we are actively embracing the opportunities and expertise of the start-up ecosystem. Our Accelerator enables us to help translate emerging technologies into what could be the future of financial services," said Derek White, Barclays Chief Design and Digital Officer.

Techstars has worked with numerous corporations to run accelerators through the Barclays Accelerator program and is accepting applications until May 10th, at which point they will select ten Fintech startup companies to provide funding along with extensive mentorship, networking and development for three months.

Benzinga will announce the winners of the 2015 Benzinga Fintech Awards, an online competition that went viral and garnered over 10 million impressions through a social media based voting system. Over 100 of the most innovative financial technology companies competed against each other. The finalists will be presented to a highly respected panel of judges and the winners will be announced on the evening of April 8th

"The caliber of companies that competed this year has been impressive. If you're looking for the next big company in fintech - and tech companies and general - you need to be at this event," Said Josh Brown, of Ritholtz Wealth Management, one of the five official judges for the competition.

The other official judges are Steve Ehrlich of Honos Financial, Ron Insana of CNBC, Andrew Ackerman of DreamIt New York, Charlie Kroll of Andrea, and Kyle Bazzy of Benzinga. Several surprise industry leaders will be presenting the awards and meeting with exhibitors.

"If you operate in the capital markets, this is the place to be as this will be the only event where you will see all the hottest companies in the capital markets space," said Jason Raznick CEO of Benzinga. "We want to change the definition of financial technology to include capital markets,” said Kyle Bazzy, President of Benzinga. "The Fintech Awards Gala will be the first event to feature products that help people create wealth in capital markets."
