Becton, Dickinson IV Solution to Aid Medication Management
Becton, Dickinson and Company BDX, more commonly known as BD, recently unveiled an intravenous (IV) medication management solution at the ongoing 50th Annual American Society of Health-system Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Clinical Meeting.
BD’s new solution is aimed at reducing the possibility of harmful and costly IV medication programming errors in hospitals. The new solution will also help bring down unnecessary expenditures on infusions, which are never utilized. The solution incorporates technologies from BD and CareFusion (acquired by BD in Mar 2015).
We believe the new medication management solution will help BD gain better market penetration, which will improve top-line growth. According to a report by MarketsandMarkets, the global medication management market will be worth an astounding $1.62 billion by 2019, which will open up significant prospects for BD.
It is to be noted that the company, of late, has been focused on expanding its product portfolio. This October, the company launched BD FACSseq – which is a high-throughput cell sorter for single cell genomics applications. BD FACSseq combined with BD Precise Assays can be used for single cell gene expression analysis.
In September this year, BD announced FDA approval for BD MAX Enteric Parasite Panel, to be used in the BD MAX System. The system is a fully-integrated, automated molecular platform which can run both In Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) and open system assays in a flexible and efficient manner. BD MAX Enteric Parasite Panel, which helps to diagnose infectious gastroenteritis, is the latest entry in the BD MAX Enteric range of assays.
