Best/Worst Daily ETF Returns: Energy Shines
Energy shined yesterday, with the Teucrium WTI Crude Oil Fund (CRUD - News) the top-performing ETF yesterday, as Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao indicated his government was ready to take action to maintain China’s growth.
CRUD was one of four energy-related ETFs on the list, with oil-related investments boosted also by the Group of Eight industrialized nations stressing the need for growth at its summit on Saturday in Chicago.
The bullish oil news likely boosted Russia-focused funds, which were also on the top-performers list.
For example, the Market Vectors Russia ETF (RSX - News) gained 4.30 percent and the iShares MSCI Russia Capped Index Fund (ERUS - News) rose 4.23 percent.
The Russell 1000 Low Volatility ETF (LVOL - News) was No. 2 on the top-performers list—a beneficiary of the volatile swings in the market that have been occurring over the past few weeks.
Worst Performers
The C-Tracks Exchange Traded Notes on the Citi Volatility (CVOL - News) was yesterday’s worst-performing exchange-traded product, losing almost 12 percent, as a major turnaround in the stock market reversed CVOL’s recent bullish fortunes.
In addition to volatility-related products, which dominated the worst-performers list, the Teucrium Natural Gas Fund (NAGS - News) dropped more than 3.5 percent—also a reversal after recent gains.
