LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire -01/30/12)- On Saturday, February 4, 2012, the "It's Our Turn -- Young Women's Conference at Brentwood School" conference will include presentations and panel discussions by an impressive range of female leaders who will address topics relevant to young women in the process of defining themselves and finding their own voice, such as activism, body image, bullying, feminism and equality, global issues for women, women in entertainment and media, and women in sports. An ambitious group of high school students at Brentwood School, a K-12 independent school in Los Angeles, CA, conceived of "It's Our Turn" to empower young women to take charge of the future in positive ways that influence and inspire others. Honorary Chair Maria Shriver and special guest Mary J. Blige invite girls in Grades 8 through 12 to attend this unique event. To purchase tickets or for more information, please go to www.bwscampus.com.

As the mission statement of the young women planning the conference describes, "Our goal is to seek wisdom and guidance from others, empower ourselves, and inspire those around us." Senior Jade Iovine, one of the primary student organizers of the conference, explains that "'It's Our Turn' was chosen to be the conference theme because it's just that simple. In our eyes, it's our turn to have a chance to change things, to spread our message, to break the chain. It's no longer just our mother's job to pave the way. It's our turn to take the drivers seat of our own lives and to change the lives of others."

Brentwood School Head, Dr. Mike Riera, adds, "At Brentwood School, we hope to inspire our students to make a difference, something I often hear our graduates are doing in a variety of ways. In this case, however, I witnessed firsthand the work done by these young women and their faculty advisors to manifest their vision -- truly remarkable. I guarantee all present will gain benefit and insight from the day. I can also assure you that what our students have accomplished will definitely surprise, impress, and, indeed, make a difference."

"What a pleasure it has been to watch the young women at Brentwood School take on the challenge of a young women's conference with such creativity, leadership and vision," said journalist, author, and activist Maria Shriver. "I am thrilled that these young women were inspired by the 'pass it on' message of the women's conference that I hosted annually and lived that message by passing on what they learned to their fellow students. My work has always been about guiding and encouraging people to move beyond their comfort zones and the labels that limit them to recognize their power to be architects of change. These extraordinary young women did just that. I am very proud of them and humbled to serve as Honorary Chair of their remarkable event."
