There is a broad variety of economic reports this week, none of which is clearly most important.
The only event today is the Chicago Federal Reserve's regional manufacturing index at 8:30 a.m. ET. It's not tracked by economists and generally doesn't impact the broader market because of its narrow geographic focus.
Tomorrow brings durable-goods orders, consumer confidence and the Richmond Fed's index. There are also two real-estate reports on the agenda: the Case-Shiller price index and new-home sales.
Wednesday features home-loan applications, pending home sales and oil inventories. The next session is the most active, with German and Italian economic data in the early morning. Jobless claims and the final release of fourth-quarter gross domestic product follow, plus the Chicago purchasing managers index.
Also on Thursday, fertilizer maker Mosaic and IT giant Accenture announce earnings before the opening bell.
The week concludes with the University of Michigan's Consumer Sentiment Index early in the trading session on Friday.
