US Department of Agriculture says calving, lambing among ag activities in ND in February

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- Agricultural activities in North Dakota for the month of February have included feeding and selling livestock, calving, lambing, hauling grain and purchasing seed.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says in its livestock and weather report that the southwest portion of the state remains dry while eastern areas have received snowfall.

Snow-cover protection for alfalfa was rated 48 percent poor, 32 adequate and 20 excellent. Snow-cover protection for winter wheat was rated 26 percent poor, 47 percent adequate and 27 excellent.

Calving was 8 percent complete, while lambing was 17 percent complete. Shearing was 40 percent complete. Cattle conditions were rated 2 percent poor, 17 fair, 68 good and 13 excellent.
