Can't deflate these numbers: Tom Brady generates big bucks

Just another chapter in the charmed life that is Tom Brady's.

A federal judge has tossed the four-game suspension NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell handed the star quarterback this spring in the so-called DeflateGate scandal. The judge had been pushing for a settlement for weeks leading up to his ruling.

In case you live under a (fully-inflated) rock, Brady and the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots were accused of using footballs that were underinflated in January's AFC championship game to gain a leg-up on the Indianapolis Colts. The Patriots won that game handily to advance to the Super Bowl. An investigation after equipment tampering allegations surfaced (which was paid for by the NFL) found that Brady was "at least generally aware of" the deflation. Hence the suspension. Hence the appeal. Hence today's ruling.

But no matter where you stand on DeflateGate, there's no arguing over the big bucks surrounding Tom Brady.

Here's Tom Brady by the numbers.

$8 million

After restructuring his contract last December, Brady’s base salary for the 2015 season is $8 million. It will bump up by $1 million dollars each year for the remaining two years of his contract -- $9 million in 2016 and $10 million in 2017.

4

That's the number of games Tom Brady was suspended from playing by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell back in May because of DeflateGate. Brady appealed the ruling and a lengthy legal battle followed. On Thursday, a judge nullified that suspension.

$470,000

That’s how much Brady would have lost per game if he had to sit out those four games. It would have been a total loss of about $1.88 million.

$1 million

The fine Goodell levied against the New England Patriots in May over the scandal. The team was also stripped of two future draft picks. Patriots owner Robert Kraft, who said he disagreed with Goodell's decision, did not appeal the ruling, saying he wanted the team to move forward. It is the largest team fine in NFL history.

38

That’s how old the star quarterback is. He is about to enter his 16th professional season.

199

The New England Patriots picked Brady in the 6th round of the 2000 draft as the 199th pick overall.

$150 million

That’s how much Tom Brady has made over his career. If he plays out the final three years of his career, that number will top $180 million.

$386 million

That’s how much Brady’s wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, has made over her 20+ year career according to Forbes. She retired from the catwalk earlier this year, but she continues to make big bucks in the fashion business. As a result, she has been making a steady climb on the Forbes Celebrity 100, hitting #46 this year. In 2014, she was #56.

$44,000

The amount a DeflateGate ball drew at auction in July. After a LeGarrette Blount touchdown in the third quarter of the AFC Championship game, a Patriots receiver handed the game ball to a fan named Laura Nichols who handed off the ball to auction house Lelands.com. It's the only known ball from the game to be in circulation.

#12

That’s Brady’s jersey number. According to the NFL Players Association, sales of Tom Brady jerseys, hats and posters outsold all other players in March, April and May of this year. It was the first time Brady topped all NFL players in retail sales according to the NFLPA. Fellow quarterbacks Colin Kaepernick, Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning rounded out the top 5 behind Brady.

September 10

The New England Patriots are scheduled to open the NFL season against the Pittsburgh Steelers on national television next Thursday. And that will be with their star quarterback, Tom Brady.
