Billionaire investor Carl Icahn raised his stake in Dell Inc. to nearly 9 percent in the past quarter, as he ramped up his fight against founder Michael Dell's efforts to buy the PC maker.
A regulatory filing Wednesday shows that Icahn held nearly 152.5 million shares worth more than $2 billion in Dell as of June 30, up dramatically from just 7 million shares owned at March 31.
The disclosure form also shows that Icahn had no stake in Apple Inc. at the end of the second quarter and only recently purchased shares. Icahn said this week that he has acquired an unspecified stake in the iPhone and iPad maker and told CEO Tim Cook that the company could do more to boost its share price.
The investor also dissolved his stake in mobile data company Motricity Inc. in the past few months. Icahn previously held nearly 6.8 million shares.
