ST. LOUIS, MO--(Marketwire -04/23/12)- Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company (Nationwide) was recently awarded Mobility Management Project of the Year by AOTMP for achieving exceptional results with its Employee Owned Smartphone project. An industry expert panel of judges determined the winners. Decisions were based on the overall impact the award winners made to their telecom environment.
Nationwide engaged Cass Information Systems, Inc. to create a solution that would allow its associates to use their personal smartphone of choice to connect to the Nationwide corporate network and utilize that single device for both personal and corporate use. In the middle of 2011, there were more than 6,000 Nationwide associates participating in the Corporate Owned BlackBerry program. To date, more than 2,500 of those associates have converted to the Employee Owned Smartphone program supporting BYOD. BYOD or "Bring Your Own Device" programs are becoming commonplace in enterprises as employees seek more freedom of choice in device and service provider options.
A seamless process by which Nationwide can reimburse its associates was developed. With Nationwide's Employee Owned Smartphone program, Cass manages and submits pre-approved monthly electronic payments for a portion of an employee's personal account directly to the service providers. This electronic payment process was deployed to supplement the associate's voice and data service when using those services for corporate use. It allows associates to freely choose the smartphone with the most appeal as well as their service provider of choice (AT&T, Verizon and Sprint).
Tim Colwell, senior vice president of Global Performance at AOTMP, says this project is "a unique combination of well-developed corporate policies, internally developed applications and vendor integration, to accurately and efficiently manage a program that supports personal technology choices for a large mobile workforce."
The feedback Cass has received from Nationwide associates and the telecom carriers has been extremely positive. This is a story about collaboration between an enterprise's internal teams and external solution providers that supports a focus on providing choice to its employees and using new technologies to make it work.
Nationwide received this Industry Excellence Award during a ceremony held in conjunction with the AOTMP 2012 Conference in Orlando, Florida.
