Cattle on feed in South Dakota down 12 percent

Agriculture Department says cattle on feed in SD down 12 percent over the year to 230,000 head

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota feedlots with capacities of 1,000 or more animals had 230,000 cattle on feed on March 1, down 12 percent from last year.

The Agriculture Department says in its latest report that placements in feedlots during February totaled 45,000 head, down 4 percent.

Marketings of fed cattle during the month totaled 39,000 head, down 13 percent from 2012.
