Sweeping changes occurred in rates on certificates of deposit this week, with rates on almost all maturities that were surveyed up 1 basis point. A basis point is one-hundredth of 1 percent.
Up 1 basis point, the average one-year CD yield is now 0.23 percent. Also up 1 basis point, the five-year yield is now 0.8 percent.
Jumbo CDs offer extra yield for a deposit of $100,000. Short-term savers didn't get a big boost in yield, as the one-year jumbo CD yield was unchanged at 0.24 percent. The five-year jumbo yield is up 1 basis point to 0.84 percent.
Money market account yields went the other way this week: The average yield is down 1 basis point to 0.11 percent.
