Rates on longer-term certificates of deposit continue to erode, basis point by basis point.

For the third consecutive week, the average yield on a five-year CD is down 1 basis point, this week clocking in at 0.87 percent. Jumbo CDs have fared no better. For a deposit of $100,000, the average five-year yield is down 1 basis point to 0.88 percent. A basis point is one-hundredth of 1 percentage point.

Rates on shorter maturities are unchanged from last week. The average one-year CD yield is 0.27 percent for the third week. The average yield on a one-year jumbo CD is 0.3 percent, also for the third week.

The average money market account yield is unchanged at 0.12 percent.
