Long-term certificates of deposit are losing ground little by little. Nearly every week, they fall a basis point.
A basis point is one-hundredth of 1 percentage point, and that is exactly what the average five-year CD yield lost this week. It's now 0.82 percent. For deposits of $100,000, the average five-year jumbo CD yield also fell by 1 basis point to 0.85 percent.
On the short side, the average one-year yield is unchanged at 0.26 percent. Also unchanged, a jumbo one-year CD yield is 0.29 percent.
The average money market account yield is 0.12 percent for the 11th week.
