Chesapeake has cut about 10 pct of its workforce

HOUSTON, Oct 8 (Reuters) - Chesapeake Energy Corp has eliminated about 1,200 jobs, or 10 percent of its workforcesince the start of the year, a company spokesman said onTuesday.

Chesapeake's new CEO Doug Lawler has pledged to relentlesslyfocus on costs to improve profits and had initiated a broadreview that aims to shrink the oil and gas company by year'send.

Lawler replaced former chief executive Aubrey McClendon inJune.
