SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire -07/10/12)- The CIO Scholarship Fund is pleased to announce its Third Annual Golf Tournament and Dinner Event on August 24, 2012 at The Course @ Wente Vineyards in Livermore, CA. The CIO Scholarship Fund, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2002 by business leaders in Silicon Valley, is exclusively focused on scholarship creation for the world's future information technology leaders. Given escalating budget pressures, California Colleges and Universities have cut back on scholarships and this Fund helps students who might not otherwise be able to afford the rising costs of higher education. Past recipients are now enrolled at local institutions including De Anza College, San Jose State University, San Francisco State University, and University of California at Berkeley.
More than 40 ambassadors (CIOs & VPs of IT) from leading companies have already pledged their support by registering for this event and the list is growing daily. Its major sponsors this year include Clarity Technology Partners, Juniper Networks, KPMG and Terremark with 14 other companies contributing as Gold Sponsors. A host of new companies are also donating generous prizes including Airship Ventures, Electronic Arts, iFly, Google, and Logitech. California-based Fisker Automotive will be featuring a 403hp electric luxury sports sedan, the Karma, as this year's hole-in-one prize.
"The CIO Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament is in its third year and the growing support is really amazing," says Dean Lane, President and co-founder of the CIO Scholarship Fund. "This event alone has raised over $180,000 in the past two years and we are on track to reach our goal of over $120,000 this year. We appreciate the support of the IT community, our volunteers, and distinguished Technology Vendors and invite qualified executives to come play golf, meet other IT Leaders, and enjoy a great dinner with us," said Lane. Participants do not need to be CIOs to attend; anyone in a senior role in IT is encouraged to get involved. The best ball scramble format will accommodate players of all skill levels. Interested parties should sign up soon as this event will sell out; player registration ends August 10.

About The CIO Scholarship Fund
It all started with a book. In 2002 a group of Silicon Valley Chief Information Officers were selected to collaborate on what would become a series of books dedicated to the profession of information technology. Rather than fight over the profits, these CIOs agreed to establish a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation so that 100% of profits could go towards educating our future information technology leaders. Since its inception multiple authors on books related to information technology and security have dedicated profits in part or whole to the fund. All monies are put towards grants for economically disadvantaged students focused on careers in information technology and computer science.
The Fund plans to expand its capabilities thanks to the support and generosity of our growing community.
