Social Media May Be King, But Dating Talk Is One-to-One

CHARLESTOWN, MA--(Marketwire -02/09/12)- According to a recent survey of college students on dating, students clearly prefer to talk about their dates outside of social media channels. The survey was conducted by college marketing company Campus Entertainment and included over 1200 students on campuses across the country.

In the survey, students were asked "How do you tell others about your dates?" Only 13% responded that they tell others through Facebook or Twitter, while over 55% said they prefer to personally deliver messages via phone, text or in person. 32% said they do not tell others about their dates.

And students are not afraid to spend money on their Valentine. Over 72% of respondents believe that a Valentine should receive over $25 in goodies. While 43% said that $50 or more was the appropriate amount to spend.

It also appears that dinner and a movie still rule. 93% of respondents said they took dates to dinner while 77% said movies were in their dating mix. 35% said they go to school events and 27% choose activities like mini golf, laser tag, go kart racing, etc.

Also of note, 38% of respondents said they were in a monogamous relationship. 37% said they were single, 20% said they were casually dating, and 3% were looking to date someone.
