• Shares of Waste Connections, Inc. (NYSE:WCN) surged 10.6% after it concluded a deal with R360 Environmental Solutions Inc. to buy its business and operating subsidiaries for $1.3 billion in cash
• Office Depot Inc. (NYSE:ODP) gained 5.3% after investment firm Starboard Value LP disclosed itself as its largest shareholder with a 13.3% stake. Moreover, in a letter to Office Depot’s management Starboard said the company is undervalued and suggested several ways to improve its profitability
• Shares of IRIS International, Inc. (NASDAQ:IRIS) soared 45.6% after Danaher Corporation (NYSE:DHR) agreed to purchase IRIS at $19.50 per share in cash which amounts to a total deal value of $338 million
• LDK Solar Co., Ltd. (NYSE:LDK) reported a second quarter loss per share of $1.84, higher than the Zacks Consensus Estimate of a loss of $1.43
