OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire -02/20/12)- The issue:
Health Canada is advising consumers to immediately discard the Pizza Playset and Fishing Game, two toys manufactured by Ningbo Ftz Zhengbao International Trading Co., Ltd in China. Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has revealed that these toys contain lead in excess of the allowable limit. Children can ingest harmful amounts of lead when they chew, suck or swallow items that contain it.
The Pizza Playset is comprised of a plastic pizza, cut in slices, along with plastic utensils and condiments. The Fishing Game includes a fishing rod and five plastic fish. These toys are designed for children ages 3 years and older. The barcode that can identify the Pizza Playset is 094922130778 and the Fishing Game can be identified with the barcode 094922553980.
Who is affected:
Consumers who have purchased the Pizza Playset or Fishing Game.
What consumers should do:
-- Check to see if you have one of the products pictured below and ensure
that they are not available to children.
-- If you have this toy in your possession, immediately discard in your
regular household garbage.
Symptoms of Lead Poisoning:
Lead is very toxic to children even at low exposure levels. A range of serious health effects have been associated with exposure to lead, including anemia, vomiting, diarrhea, serious brain injury, convulsions, coma, as well as effects related to the liver, kidneys, heart and immune system. In extreme cases, lead poisoning can result in death.

What Health Canada is Doing:
Health Canada inspectors are continuing to work to determine how many affected products have been distributed across Canada. Health Canada is advising consumers of the risk identified at this time to allow Canadians to identify these products and discard them as soon as possible.
Health Canada routinely conducts market surveys on children's products and will continue to work with industry to take appropriate action when products containing lead in excess of the allowable limit are found.
Background:
Under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA)'s Toy Regulations, a toy's surface coating must not contain more than 90 mg/kg total lead (0.009%).
