Corporate earnings are the main item on today's agenda as retailers Home Depot, Best Buy, Saks, and TJX report quarterly results.
Economic news picks up tomorrow as Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke heads to Capitol Hill for testimony before the Joint Economic Committee. MBA also releases weekly mortgage-loan applications, the National Association of Realtors reports existing home sales, and the Fed will publish minutes from its last meeting.
Attention shifts to the larger macroeconomic scene in the following overnight session, with manufacturing data expected from China, Germany, France, and the Eurozone. Thursday also brings weekly jobless claims and new-home sales in the United States.
There are more German numbers on Friday, plus U.S. durable-goods orders for April.
