The average annual percentage rate, or APR, for variable-rate credit cards jumped 9 basis points to 15.28 percent from 15.19 percent, according to Bankrate's latest survey of interest rates. A basis point is one-hundredth of 1 percentage point. The APR for fixed-rate cards remained unchanged at 13.02 percent for the ninth straight week.

The average APR for variable-rate cards increased because Discover raised the higher end of its APR range on five credit cards, while Barclays upped its APR on its World MasterCard, according to Bankrate's survey.
