  • 15.14% (all variable)

The average annual percentage rate, or APR, for variable-rate credit cards inched up to 15.14 percent from 15.13 percent last week, according to Bankrate's latest survey of interest rates. A basis point is one-hundredth of 1 percentage point. The APR for fixed-rate cards remained unchanged at 13.02 percent.

The percentage of credit card holders behind on their payments by 90 days or more rose in the final quarter of 2012 to 0.85 percent from 0.75 percent in the third quarter, according to credit reporting agency TransUnion. The rate is also up from a year ago but still remains below historic norms. The average credit card balance per borrower increased to $5,122 from $4,996 in the third quarter, likely a reflection of holiday spending. However, the figure is lower than a year ago.
