Credit card rates were unchanged this week, according to Bankrate's latest survey of interest rates. The average annual percentage rate for variable-rate credit cards remained at 14.58 percent, while the average APR for fixed-rate credit cards stayed steady at 14.02 percent for the seventh straight week.
Credit card balances increased by $2 billion in the third quarter from the second quarter, according to a report released Tuesday from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The number of open credit card accounts fell slightly to 382 million accounts during the same period. In aggregate, credit card limits slipped by less than half a percentage point in the quarter.
