BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Davis E. Richards has been elected by the Energen Corporation (EGN) Board of Directors to head drilling and completion operations at the company’s oil and gas exploration and production unit, effective October 1, 2013. Energen is currently focused on the exploration and development of its extensive oil and natural gas liquids assets in the Permian Basin.
In the newly created position of Vice President of Drilling and Completions, Richards brings to Energen more than 35 years of experience in drilling, completion, reservoir, and production operations. Most recently, he served as General Manager Completions for EP Energy’s domestic operations. From 2009-2012, Richards served as General Manager Drilling for domestic operations at El Paso Exploration and Production Company, which he joined in 1999. He began his career with Sonat Exploration Company in 1977, advancing to Vice President Operations and EHS in 1998.
“Davis brings to Energen particular knowledge of horizontal drilling, shale well completions, recompletion and work-over programs, and cost control,” said James McManus, Energen’s chairman and chief executive officer. “His expertise in the Wolfcamp shale will be of particular benefit to us as we work to realize the full potential of this and other prospective horizontal intervals across our 300,000 net acres in the Permian Basin.
“As we position ourselves for significant growth through the drill bit, Davis rounds out an excellent senior management team that includes John Richardson, president and chief operating officer; David Godsey, senior vice president of exploration and geology; David Minor, senior vice president of operations; and Paul Sparks, senior vice president of resource development and technology,” McManus said.
A native of Alabama and long-time Texas resident, Richards earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Alabama.
