DCP MIDSTREAM CONTINUES FIGHT AGAINST CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE, GIVING OVER $1 MILLION TO THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION
Company Steps Up Contributions to AHA via Heart and Stroke Walk Fundraising,
Third Annual Charity Golf Tournament
DENVER, June 18, 2014 - Heart disease remains the No. 1 killer of women and men in the U.S. DCP Midstream (DCP), America`s leading natural gas gatherer and processor and the third-largest operator of natural gas liquids pipelines, continues to fight back through its strong support of the American Heart Association (AHA).
Today, DCP announced its fundraising and awareness efforts surrounding the AHA`s annual Heart and Stroke Walk, held June 7. Surpassing DCP`s corporate goal of 350 registrants, 456 employees participated in the walk, with an additional 79 team members starting their own Heart and Stroke Walk in Greeley`s Bittersweet Park.
DCP`s third annual charity golf tournament benefitting the AHA, held May 19, raised $680,000. The annual event, hosted by DCP at the Glenmoor Country Club, remains among the top fundraisers supporting the Denver Heart and Stroke Walk. Additionally, in support of the Heart and Stroke Walk, DCP`s employees raised $196,067. With DCP`s $125,000 platform sponsorship, FY2014 contributions to AHA total $1,001,067.
"DCP Midstream is dedicated to the health and wellness of our 3,200-plus employees, and our ongoing partnership with the American Heart Association is vitally important to our health and wellness mission," said Greg Smith, DCP`s president of the north and Permian business units and internal chairman of the Denver Heart and Stroke Walk. "This is why DCP remains a top Heart and Stroke Walk fundraiser in the country, and we look forward to continuing to grow this special relationship."
Now in its sixth year partnering with the AHA, DCP provides the nonprofit with leadership in addition to monetary support. Wouter van Kempen, DCP`s chairman, president and CEO, serves on the 2015 AHA Board of Directors and is the 2016 incoming Denver Board Of Directors chairman. Sean O`Brien, GVP and CFO, is a council member on AHA`s Cor Vitae. Irene Lofland, vice president of internal audit, currently serves as the "My Heart. My Life" chairwoman and is an active member of the Go Red for Women committee. Lofland also served as the chairwoman of the 2013 Go Red for Women Executive Committee. Smith is a member of the Denver Heart and Stroke Walk Executive Leadership Team.
"The American Heart Association thrives off fundraising and the generous support of corporations like DCP Midstream. We have an ambitious 2020 goal of improving the health of all Americans by 20 percent while reducing deaths from cardiovascular disease and stroke by 20 percent," said Rob Blaustein, regional vice president of the AHA. "Together we are making huge strides in the battle against heart disease."
