Dominion Virginia Power's Warren County power plant 50 pct complete, set to be online in 2014

FRONT ROYAL, Va. (AP) -- Dominion Virginia Power says construction of its natural gas-fired plant in Warren County had reached the half-way point.

The Richmond-based utility says the $1.1 billion plant that has been under construction for 17 months is expected to be online by the end of 2014.

The work force at the site peaked at 1,400 and will start going down over the next few months.

Once complete, the 1,329-megawatt power station will employ about 40 people and produce enough electricity to serve more than 330,000 customers.

Dominion Virginia Power is the state's largest electric utility with about 2.3 million customers.

Parent company Dominion Resources Inc. is one of the nation's largest producers and transporters of energy and has the nation's largest natural gas storage system. It serves retail customers in 15 states.
